Size Standard of Step Nosing

1. Types of step nosing

There are three types of anti-slip strip. One type is those with wrap angle, that is, L-shaped. The narrow side is about 2 cm wide and can be protected to the side of the stairs. The other type is I-shaped and has no wrap angles. Both of these are fixed with screws. The installation position is generally directly against the side of the step, and the width of the step nosing ranges from 4 to 6 cm. The third type is anti-slip molding, which only requires two 2mm slits to be directly embedded in. You can also customize the size of the step nosing according to the size of the stairs in your home, which can help you choose product.

2. The specific size standards of the step nosing are as follows

(1) In order to avoid the illusion when going up and down the stairs, the height of the first and last steps of the stairs should be the same as the other steps. If you need to change it, it should be controlled the difference of height within 4 cm, preferably no more than 2 cm to 3 cm.

(2) The height from the highest step to the ceiling of the stairs must have a clearance of more than two meters, and the minimum is not less than 1.8 meters. Otherwise, there will be a sense of oppression.

(3) Railing spacing: the distance between the center of the two railings of the step nosing should be 8 cm, not more than 12.5 cm, so as to prevent children from sticking their heads out of the gap.

(4) Handrail height: handrail of a diameter of 5.5cm should be 85 to 90 cm high, which is near the waist.

(5) Step height and depth: the step height should be 15 to 18 cm, and the step surface depth should be 22 to 27 cm. The number of steps is about 15. If the step nosing is too high, it may be necessary to set up a stair rest platform.

(6) Stair width: when one side is in the air, the clear width is not less than 75 cm; when there are walls on both sides, the clear width is not less than 90 cm.

(7) Safety: the components of the stairs should be smooth and round, without protruding or sharp parts. For families with children and elderly people, the slope of the stairs should be relatively even, and the rotation angle should not be too large; anti-skid measures should be taken for the stair treads, such as anti-slip strips, anti-slip mats, and anti-slip grooves.
